In regards to Cumbersome, it seems to me the way the rule's written that only the first between each enemy (in this case 2) does not count as being -1 Combat. Every combat sequence afterwards between either or would count as -1 Combat unless contact is broken. You could hit each one once before the negative modifier applies. You can't just jump back and forth and assume it's still the 'first' round of combat. I hope that clarifies that.
As for Eager, it's in regards to the first attack sequence vs. a unit, any unit, not once per game. This is where characters such as Anna Bogna Pavlova are so great, 'cause they can generally boff a guy in 1 attack sequence anyway, thus allowing her another Eager attack for the next figure she hunts down!
I hope this helps.
Eager + Cumbersome is a bit tricky due to the fact of getting the bonus for first round, and then the huge negative, even if it's only -1 for the rest. It reflects the fact that your weapon is heavy and lunky and easy to charge in with, or receive a charge with a baseball bat type swing, but afterwards, getting a hold of it again is tricky, especially with a demon ready to chop your head off in the process! It's written in such a way so that it should make sense to a similar real-world situation.
