Titre: Compuslory combat?

Does a model in contact with the enemy have to attack the enemy?

We had an instance where a Doppelsöldner with 2 Wound Points remaining was in contact with Price Tariq. If the Doppelsöldner activated, he'd get butchered, due to Tariq's CBT 7 and Rapid Strike (Defense). We wondered if he could just stand there and be annoying, to tie up Tariq for a round.

We decided it was a cheesy thing to do, and theDoppelsöldner attacked. As it turned out, Tariq was afflicted with fail, and missed entirely.

It was a spectacular fail.

in the rules it states you HAVE to activate and MUST choose one from the list of actions. ie charge, melee, retreat etc.

so by default if the dopple is in contact with tarik when he activates he MUST choose something to do. options being melee or retreat if he is already engaged. he cant just decide to do nothing. if he was 'free' then he could activate and not do anything as it wouldnt have a knock on effect on any other model, it would merely be assumed the model performed a walk action forwards and then backwards to his origonal spot or something to that effect.

That makes a lot of sense. To be honest I was just grasping at straws trying to stop Tariq munching his way to Vargas, which he ended up doing anyway while Vargas ineffectually chased that damnable bird or Tariqs.
