============

I had made attempt to contact Asmodee Editions to run events as an official tournament, hoping I can reward players with “Primae Materiae”.

The round format is copied from a recent Legend of Five Ring tournament that I ran at Fanboy3; also having play warmachine and infinity.
45mins should be enough.

Actual rounds format will be base on numbers turn up on the day, but for event running the purpose, a format has to set for now.

A set of cards in English will be in place for each table for reference.

No set number of entries. But I would appreciate if players could inform me if they are coming. (For setting up tables and waiting for late arrivals)

Prize: Pending of number of entry, I am sure we can at least arrange some shop credit or for more Hell Dorado figure.

============

Event is set...  see Fanboy3 website... http://www.take2theweb.com/pub/fb3/db.html

And we have 6 confrimed entries already.

If you can arrive a little bit early, please do so you can get familiar with the rules and missions.

============

Dear All,

I had been inform by asmodee that prize support are on its way to Manchester...

Including....
promocards pack, Primae Materiae prizes,
alternative cards and strategic advantages plus "voyageuse" ...

Pending on Number turn out... these prize support suppose to be for number of torunments... We will give them out accordingly...

N.B. PLEASE NOTE!!!!!!!!!!

But on the grounds that MODELS NEED to be PAINTED... So get busy with your paint brush ;)... Sorry about me saying above: No painting requirement... :-[ Sorry!!

MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED MODELS NEED to be PAINTED

Hurrah!

A few questions though I`m afraid.  Not being funny but its easiest to get these sorted so people don`t complain afterwards.

Is 45mins enough for a game ?  It may well be, havn`t tried it yet.  How come you`re doing a top 4 split ?  Might be better to do five games in a swiss system then four games with some getting six.  What scenario are we using for this ?  A kill `em all thing or are there some scenarios ?  What are we doing about cards since they don`t exist ?  I`m guessing printouts of stats would be good.  Is there a limited number of places ?

To those who`ve never been to Fanboy, its close to Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester which is easily travelled to from both Piccadilly and Victoria train stations.  T`is a friendly shop with a fair few tables for gaming.  Can`t comment on the prizes for this one, but at the Confrontation and Infinity tournaments I`ve been to in the past you tended to get store credit for more lovely figures.  I`d recommend it as a shop even if there wasn`t a tournament on.

that should be more than enough notice for me to take the day off work and come along me thinks. count me in so far

as for cards asmodee are releasing the translated versions soon but whether its before this event remains to be seen. i think having the french cards and a translated ability sheet would do at a pinch, also somebody bring a copy or two of the game rules myself like dogmeat is yet to play this and im not too likely to play before this tourney so game times may take a bit longer as we get used to things.

is scenarios wise at this stage as proberly dont have the collective experience to master the rules yet let alone think about victory conditions all too much. besides doesnt the tables have to be a certain size divided up into nine 10' by 10' squares to play scenarios?????

either way im in and i'll be bringing my fully painted demons  ;D

Remember "Kill Everything" is a scenario too.  I just feel that certain armies might benefit a little too much from a slaughter only environment.

I have done a rough translation of the french tournament rules. (http://arch01.forum.helldorado.fr/index.php?topic=1659.msg17046#msg17046) Might be interesting to use these to stop players just bringing kill-all lists.  I`d definately say to ignore the wierd terrain rules for now as there arn`t any official translations for `em.  I`d just go for the "couple of hills and a building or two" thing. At least until people start making their own terrain pieces.

I`ll have a print happy session at work this week and make sure I`ve got a few spare rulebooks and cheat sheets.

At least most people take Demons because they`re "cool" rather than tough as nails.  :P

I think I`m going to have a look if I can scrounge a good quality box from work.  Using a KR Multicase for them at the mo.  Much too big for ten models.

Interesting ...

I`ve already got a KR Multicase but its a bit too big for skirmish gaming to carry around at work.  I`ll most likely just make a cardboard sleeve for one of the foam trays and use that.  That way I can just slide it into my bag for work.  That one you`ve linked to looks like it might be good for having both my Hell Dorado and Infinity warbands with me when I go gaming.

Are we talking a quick spray to identify the models owners or fully painted things ?

Sebastien.
Please allow me to thank you for your assistant
Nicolas has not informed me what is specific for me, or do I get anything…but I am quite happy to run a good event and everyone goes home happy in the end of the day... I am sure in the end credit will goes to where it’s due. (that’s is if the event goes well!)

Dogmeat:
For the first tournment... I will say... Painted model is fine...(minimum three colours)
For the next one... I will have to insist... reasonable amount of effort must be made to try to paint the models to be deserved to reach the table...
After all! Hell Dorado Models are very nice and deserved to be painted.
Plus, photos and report are requrie to be send to Asmodée ... If not I guess we will not receive future prize support...

I hope players will understand the situation regarding painted models ...
Please give the games and models the effort that they deserve.

A bit of advertising for Fanboy3 where the events hold, they have restocked everything but they are also disappearing quickly (into my displaying case!) … If you need to reserve any models, please let me know and get them on the day…

“For This Tournament only” Due to supply and demand, if you ended up buying the model on the day of the event; we will have to let you off regarding the painted model rules… because I understand some fictions are very high demand and not everyone could get their hands on them…

But PLEASE NOTE the next tournament in May (TBC)… Strict rule of PAINTED (NICELY) model will be apply! No Excuse!!

Thats the problem.  I could paint them, but paint them well ?

Don`t get me wrong, I really do appreciate effort into helping me gaming.  I really do.  I`m just not sure why the general consensus is that people who game also seem to paint.  I can see exactly why a company wants the models to be painted.  Helps sell.  I`m just not sure that somebody seeing my efforts at painting would be willing to buy.   ;)

I will paint my models but I know I won`t do them full justice.

The usual reason is for publicity purposes. Since Asmodée are stumping up some cash to support it, they're expecting a return on their investment. Painted armies almost always look better to observers than unpainted lead on the table - you can't tell the armies apart very well, for a start.

Demons are easy. Paint Asaliah white, do the hair blonde. Everyone else, dark red with some accent colours. 2 spraycans, red and white, and a pot each of metallic, bone and yellow will do you.

you dont paint badly dogmeat dont worry about it.

i can understand why Asmodee want this and i can see why it should be wavered for the first tournie but i do agree with dogmeat and think it could be off putting to possible players to not only paint the models but for there to be a standard they have to reach. somewhat elitist although i do get why they want that and if the tournie is to be "official" then so be it. its good in a way and i hope it does get people motivated to paint the models, i didnt need the motivation and really got stuck into them and enjoyed it like i havent done in a long time. i mean its what 8-12 models tops?? i painted my demons fully in 10 days or so and am 3 models into my saracens in as many days. get you paints out lads.

i will bring my saracen army on the day just incase anyone either doesnt get there stuff painted in time or just fancies taking part on the day and doesnt have owt to play with.

looking forward to it  ;D

Oh definately.

Don`t get me wrong, I don`t want to sound negative or anything.  Its more a general musing on the reasons gamers paint then being specific about this tournament.  Its not like scientists paint their microscopes.   ;D

changed your mind to wesrerners eh dogmeat. heres me worrying how to stop 2 grand wraths ans samael  :o

Not fully decided yet.  Westerners seem easy to paint really ..   :P

There seems to be a few Demon armies so I thought I`d go for the unrepresented Westerners.  I hate it in a tournie when you face the same army (albeit different people) over and over.

As you all know that you are getting Prima Materiae (PM) from the events at Manchester...

And you will be able to get individual figures from with the PM you recieved.

So here is the deal...

We will order these figures on your behalf with your present and future prize support... (Consider the future prize support as a loan!)

Hopefully it should be arrive in time for the next event in May !
« and you can use it for the event! »

This way you can get the figure about three months before you actually have enough PM to swap it.

You can pay off the loan as you come to more of our event, do not actually cost you anything.

But, in order to prevent players come to one event, pick up the figure and not come to the future event, a deposit for the figure is require, until the loan is paid off.

No time limit will be set for this, so if you missed tournament does not mean you lose the deposit, as long as you paid off the PM loan, you get your money back.

What do you think? Get your second Succube now? Get to use the two stupid Panther?? ::)

[puts on Fanboy hat]

Situated at the heart of Manchester's transport hub, literally a stone's throw from Picadilly Station, it's easy to reach us by road, rail or coach.

Newton Street is situated at the edge of the Northern Quarter, and it's readily accessible right off the A6 ring road. There's local on street parking off Newton Street, but we recommend the Dale Street Car Park as it's £4.50 for the entire day.

[/takes hat off]

Fanboy is open from 10am so theres no problem with getting there early.  No doubt you`ll be able to find somebody for a quick warm up game or a donut.  Manchester is one of the few places in England you can get a Krispy Kreme (http://www.krispykreme.co.uk/) donut.  Mmmmmm.  I probably wouln`t recommend the on street parking as its city centre.  With that comes the idiots who scratch car doors and steal mirrors etc etc.  Not that I`ve had any trouble mind, just that I`m not trusting.

If you do come into Manchester by train then you can ride the city centre trams for free.  Both Piccadilly and Victoria stations have tram stops that`ll take you to Piccadilly Gardens and thats in stabbing distance of Fanboy.

Thank you Dogmeat for the pdf and clarify the parking situation in town.

Before I moved into Town, personally, I used the Dale Street Car Park; I have not experienced any trouble before, (Know that it get fill up pretty quickly on weekends…). Its quite safe… even at time missed last train back from London, the car still in 1 piece when I return the next day, and probably the cheapest option in town on a Saturday.

Coming to the shop early, would not be a bad idea… Get the shopping done! Hell Dorado probably the fastest selling miniatures game in the shop so far… or just help setting up table will not be a bad idea either…

The shop listed everything an hour before the event actually start.
This allows people to get to the shop (Traffic Jam, looking for parking space, getting lost, looking for food) “I would have to try the donut, didn’t know they have a branch there…” “Learn something everyday!”

Allow me time to get table sorted…

Do some shopping at the shop, have some “blah blah blah” with other players.

“Remember, for this event only, if you buy model from the shop on the day, you can put it together and use it… “Flipper 19 the Damned” took the last Grand Demon off the shelf… eeeerrrrrrgggghhhh!!!  :P

Consider 12:30 is the ultimate deadline; You HAVE to be READY to calculate and compare “Domination Points”

And I would like take the opportunity now and apologise in advance, if there are teething problems at the event on this coming Saturday.

Your honour, defence rest!! :)

For future record:-
Hell Dorado event that is on…
Event from May (Something big lined up!) ::)

I know with Confrontation tournaments in the past we`ve done two day events that consisted of two tournaments, with a winner from each tournament but an overall winner too.  Might be able to do something similar.

Or you could be the same person, one playing on Sat, one on Sun and share the prize.   ;D

An Event is definitely is on… but cannot confirm whether it will be one or two days…
Once the frist event is over, I get a better idea of how the event will go... and I will amend them accordingly for the Event in May...

Date and format will be posted...and including something along the line with “Charity” and “La Voyageuse”
More PM to be won...
Plus mentioned earlier...“Get your figure today, will interest free PM Loan” offer! (Small Deposits apply!)

just to say looking forward to tomorrow, see you guys there, hopefully some of the maybe list will turn up and give us a better turn out than 5.

remember bring ya dice, translated cards/cheat sheets whatever you prefer to use but please please dont whip out a french dictionairy during a game and translate word for word everything on your cards  ;)  :)

bring your models, cards, tape measure and for those who want to i seriously suggest making yourself a little set of tokens to remind you of the various states your models enter during a game, without them you end up forgetting and it gets messy. if your an conf player like me just glue some of the old wound markers back to back and write on them "stunned, knocked down etc" it makes life easy.

good luck to all, hopefully be arriving about 11ish depending on train times to help set up etc. gutted my samael/black freak box didnt arrive in time  :-\

I wouldn`t worry too much.  Theres four games so if five people turn up then we get to play everybody.  Any more players is just a bonus.

I`ll try and turn up around 11 too.  That way we can get a warm up test game going, or we can just eat meatball subs.

thanks to jacki for a great event 12 players in total, had a really good time (minus the 5hrs on a train)

managed to scrape a 4th outta a really bad 3rd round. mercs, with lancer, golem, grenider <sp> and sara with exploding lemures

my greater deamon barely made it into the 2nd turn of combat (turn 3 overall) it was a blood bath but great fun never the less :) :)

thanks again jacki

had a great game, not sure how i placed 3rd, i felt like i bungled my way through every game. thanks to my opponents, dogmeat, richard and ron for putting up with me and my less than fantastic understanding of the rules (part of my brain still tries to activate models like in confrontation) and cheers to jacky for organising it, a great turnout for the first tournie hopefully this will get better and better. cant make the next one because im in france but i'll move mountains to make it as often as possible.

lessons learned today

1) re read the rule book and understand it better
2) dopplesoldners are filth and i hate them
3) succubus is the shizzle and i WUV them (PM will get me my 2nd)
4) demons of greed are pap and seldom worth taking
5) having to focus and not move to poop out a lemure is irritating, in a 4 turn game your lucky to get one spell off which seldom does much. rethink officers role on the table
6) read the scenario sheet and keep it in mind during play. i could maybe have done better had i done this from game 1 onwards and not game 2  ::)
7) combat is so very very brutal, getting carried away with my grand dammed of wrath gets him killed whilst achieving little. he looks hard and 20 hit points seems alot but it melts away in moments.
8) demons lack of PR is horrible. without asaliahs healing order i'd have died to the last man in proberly every game.
9) westerners abundance of PR is equally horrible, it takes forever to kill anything and that makes me sad  :'(
10) and finally and most importantly i learned that a subway BMT with sweet onion sauce ruins your shirt without you knowing. karma for not taking my first love - the meatball n cheese sub.

great day out. cheers  ;D

Thanks to Richard, Dogmeat and Bork for 3 great games and thanks to Jackey and all at FB3 for a great day.
