You`re not dumb.  The rules for this havn`t been released in English yet.

Stragglers (Reinforcements, I think.  ;D)
Warrior Units marked as stragglers are not present on the battlefield at the beginning of the game. They might have been held back by hostile forces, or by appalling weather conditions. Their arrival onto the table is random. During each maintenance phase after the first one, any player who has Straggler warrior units may try to make them join the game. The player rolls 1d6 for each of the figures. That warrior will enter the battlefield on a roll of 5 or 6. During the third maintenance phase, the warriorunithe will entercome in on a result of 4, 5 or 6. During all subsequent maintenance phases, ithe will be brought into play on any roll greater or equal to 3. For each warriorunit, the player may, before the die is cast, spend one point of permanent command to make it come into play (without any die roll). The playerHe  may also spend a command point after the roll to get a reroll (only one reroll is ever allowed per diewarriornever two rerolls for the same attempt). WarriorUnits that come into play in this way are placed in contact with the edgea limit of the board (eExcept if they have the Ambush capacity), in the normal deployment zone of the owner and out of alln enemy control zones. They activate normally during the action phase of that turn. A warriorunit with the advance Advance deployment Deployment or ambush capacities can use them when he comes into play.

Badly formatted as its from a change document.  I`ll clean it up when I get the time.

On the English Card DL from the Website it says -

When deploying the armies and after seeing the composition
of the enemy army, Gilles de Rais can choose a maximum
of 24 extra command points that will enter the game later,
following the rule for latecomers.

I assume Latecomers is Stragglers.

So how does that work, surely you would only get to see your opponents Army composition after deployment!

Most things in HD are open.  You can measure what you want when you want.  Its also kinda assumed that you know what your opponents are fielding too.

I`d play this as choose your 24 points of reinforcement models after deployment.  Its fairly open.

OK, I got that - but WHERE do those 24 Pts come from.

As Gilles is the most Expensive Commander in the Game ATM, I am thinking they are 'Free' (not) - they are hidden in his Points cost.

Almost: in a tournament setting, the 24 points have to come from your side list, but a company with Gilles as its only officer gets a 24 point bonus to the side list size.

OK NOW I'm confuzzled - I've never played in a Tournament - what is a side list?

In a tournament, your list is typically 260 AP worth, but you only play each game with the usual 200. This leaves a 60 AP side list to adapt your campany to the scenario, opponent,... The 200 AP main list is chosen once you know the scenario and which faction your opponent plays, but before terraformation.

With Gilles de Rais, the whole list is 284 AP worth, you select a 200 AP main list inside this one before terraformation and you pick up the 24 AP worth of reinforcements when deploying among the 84 AP that were left over.

So, in a Friendly game you would actually take 224 Points of Troops - keeping 24 Pts on Mercs in reserve then.

Yes, that is how I play him.

We called these extra for tournaments a sidebar when doing a similar approach with Confrontation Tournaments

I'm actually waiting for my Gilles to come in the post atm (should be tomorrow) - can't wait to try him out!
