With the upcoming Nirvana for Mercs on November 28th, Mercenaries now have 3 troop choices of their own to field with models-
Has anyone run these all and have any preferences?

Looking to get some list ideas together for a pure Merc band post 11/28!

I haven't run the new Deserters, but have quite a bit of experience with the other two. The Rank-and-file guys are at their best with the +1 move and the evading ability I think. This way they are wonderful objective fulfillers - just keep them out of harm's way and hope the opponent doesn't want to risk the one in three chance of the evasion happening and ruining a charge. Very good and cheap models in scenarios.

The Squamate nomads OTOH can do something in close combat but only if supported (usually through Vae Victis, but charisma works, too). They are immensely fragile, though, as getting even a small scratch will get them wounded and after that they really aren't good in combat. Still, their main function is similar to the rank-and-file in that they are good in trying to achieve scenario objectives. Also, in terraformation their scout abilities make them very nice. I suppose that if one doesn't use terraformation rules, then the deserters should be used instead.

All in all, with pure mercs, the troops are mainly rubbish support who do the grunt work while the awesome independents get the glory of battle.
