Help me out a bit here, as I'm a bit at a loss about what would be the best way to go forwards.

I'd like to make a terrain piece for my saracen army - a building that has either been built as a haven in hell, or a building/ruin that has for some reason has changed its plane of existence (such as an odd shipwreck in the middle of hellish plains far from any source of water) - probably mutated a bit in the process. I'd like for it to "go along with my army" though, so it has to be somehow related to saracens AND I'd like it to be also a sensible terrain element on the gaming board with significant tactical importance (cover, height etc - the usual) and perhaps link it to a specific terraformation piece ruleswise.

My table is of the "fiery hell" kind.

I've thought about making a mosque - reasonable enough, but an appropriate one would take a disproportionally large section from the table and limit its usage. Another one would be a minaret, but that would just be a tall tower that blocks line of sight and would be a bitch to store and move between tourneys (as I intend to use them as terrain pieces in tournaments I help organize). Another one would be a fallen minaret and its ruins and this is what I'm currently considering the most, but then I'm at a loss for what the structures actually are inside a minaret (or a mosque for that matter), as I really don't know much about moslem culture.

All conceptual ideas (and drawings) welcomed. I'm a terrain maker nut so don't hesitate to suggest something even if it would sound damn hard to accomplish.

Late at night... I can still hear their screams... the tiny, innocent voices that cry "It was not us! It was not our fault! Why did we have to pay for your misgivings?"
...and I try to quieten them... the voices in my head and convince myself that I was right - and the dice had to be burned

No reason why all the mosque has to be in hell.  Could just be part of it, with protruding joinery and brickword to show the rip.  Or you could do it as a bit of a construction site.  A half built mosque can provide cover and would no doubt hold some reverance (i,e terraformation rules).

But from what I've understood, mosques are bloody big. Of course - in miniature game terrain, scales and realism are more or less negotiable questions, but then again I'd suppose that mosques are built like most other buildings (ie outer and inner decorations come last), and this would, in the end, make more or less a generic construction site than something that looks like a mosque under construction.

Good idea though, keep em coming.

edit: and that half-a-mosque idea is actually good, but then again, it would still be rather big, and "corner of a mosque" would be a bit silly... still, hmm.. this may be workable... an altar of sorts, with ripped mosque tiles as a base... perhaps to be used with the sactuary rules...

First thing that comes to mind would be a nomad caravan/store.

Simple Miniature Games use these boards for HD demos. The shipwrech is by Ziterdes, repainted to match the sand coloured board. Not sure about the buildings - maybe the same company.

Buildings seem to be from Hirst Arts or Linka (can't tell from this distance - would put my money on Linka though) blocks, with a Rackham door added the ruin on the right board. Funny that I had also considered the shipwreck idea.

I love these big themed boards, but doesn't it make the terraformation stage hard to pull off- or does whoever wins the bid for the region just declare what the big piece of scenery is?

Building items myself for Hell Dorado but so far I am trying to make them portable pieces...
